Bok lock ready to make long-awaited return

The Springboks have received a boost as Munster confirmed that second rower RG Snyman is ready for team training after two injury-ridden years.

Snyman joined the Irish province in 2020, but his career at Munster is yet to take flight as he has been plagued by a series of injuries since his arrival in Limerick.

Just seven minutes into his debut in 2020, he ruptured his ACL and had played only a handful of minutes last season before suffering a repeat of the same injury. To go with his knee ligament injuries, the 27-year-old also suffered burn wounds sustained during a fire-pit accident involving Munster teammates Damian de Allende and CJ Stander.

As a result, Snyman has not featured for South Africa since the World Cup final in 2019.

However, Munster posted positive news about the experienced lock’s latest comeback on Wednesday.

“There is good news on the injury front as we started the pre-season training programme with RG Snyman (knee) reintegrating to team training,” Munster said in a statement on their official website.

This means that Snyman should be ready to make his on-field return when the 2022-23 United Rugby Championship season gets under way in September.

Depending on how his return goes, Snyman will also have enough time to prove his fitness for South Africa’s end-of-year tour to Europe in November.
